New York and its environs are often affected by extreme weather conditions, and temperatures can quickly drop below freezing. So it can be very difficult for stray animals who don’t have a warm place to go.
Nathaniel lives in Brooklyn, and while working from home on a snowy day, he realized something was going on outside his apartment window.
It was then that he noticed that a stray cat was pawing at his window, asking to enter — and who can blame the poor cat, it was cold outside.
He immediately recognized the cat as Chunk Chunk, one of the members of a nearby stray cat colony.
Knowing that Chunk Chunk was having the worse time of its life, Nathaniel knew he had to do something. He had never been a cat fan, but his fiancée Renee volunteers her time to help keep the local community cats safe.
He couldn’t leave this kitty out in the cold and snow so he allowed the shivering cat in so it could warm up on such a miserable day.
“I’ve always been pretty reticent about bringing the cats inside, but I knew Renee would want me to help Chunk Chunk out,” he explained. “I love Renee and I knew helping Chunk Chunk was the right thing to do.”
He did manage to film it before letting it in !!
Chunk Chunk was very skittish and he was worried that it wouldn’t get on with the dog.
He decided the safest place for it would be in the bathroom so he put some towels on the floor to make it comfortable.
When Renee arrived home from work she didn’t seem surprised when she learned about their house guest.
«It was one of the friendliest community cats I’ve ever encountered,» she said. «It always asks for affection and starts purring after a few seconds.»
A week later the kitty is still with them and has even had a visit to the vet to make sure all is well.
They are hoping that it will get on with the dog because there is a good chance that this would be its forever home.
