Abandoned cat in a box attracts the attention of a dog and his owner on a walk

Locked in a box sealed with tape and abandoned on the side of a road, a cat was discovered by a lady who was walking her dog. A local animal protection association has taken him in and is appealing for witnesses.

A cat abandoned in a box was rescued by a dog and its owner before being handed over to the Welsh Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA).

This sad discovery was made on Tuesday, July 26 in the early afternoon, around 1 p.m. A woman was walking her dog near a field in Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales when the canine started barking at a box on the side of the road.

The owner of the dog opened the container to discover a cat with a tabby coat. The box was sealed with tape, and inside was water and food.

She immediately took the feline to the nearest veterinary clinic, that of the RSPCA in Merthyr Tydfil.

“We are grateful to them for bringing this cat to us,” said Sophie Daniels, an investigator for the animal protection association.

The cat was examined by the veterinarians, who found that he suffered from viral oral problems for which he is now being treated, but fortunately, he had no injuries.

The RSPCA has launched an appeal for witnesses in the hope of shedding light on the abandonment. “If anyone can help us with our investigation, please contact us,” said Sophie Daniels. We never know the exact reasons why owners abandon their animals. There is no doubt that there could be several factors, from people’s changing circumstances to the rising cost of living. But each animal has specific welfare needs and it is dangerous to leave them on their own.”

The cat was then transferred to the RSPCA shelter in Penllergaer, about fifty kilometers away. He continues to recover and receive treatment.
