Here is the example in question:
8 ÷ 2 (2+2) = ?
What were the responses from users?
One side insisted that the result should be 16, and the other argued for 1. Everyone got the action in brackets right, but the subsequent actions differed. Someone said that first multiply and then divide.
Others are convinced that division and multiplication are absolutely equivalent actions, which should be done in the same order as in the example.
They have not reached a consensus.
