One of our readers recently said: “Why do all women have to wear their hair short once they reach a certain age? Why do they have to follow these old-fashioned rules that say the older you get, the shorter your hair should be?
When I was studying hairdressing and our teacher said something similar, I also found it strange. I agree that long, unkempt hair can be unflattering and visually age a woman. However, why not opt for a long cut, especially if the quality of your hair allows it?
If your hair is fine and thinning, bi-texturing can give it volume and bounce. There are formulas specially designed for fine, porous hair.
I don’t recommend short cuts for women with good hair for the following reasons:
If you’ve always worn your hair long, you may not feel comfortable with a short cut and want to go back to long hair. Many middle-aged women opt for uniform short haircuts, which makes their image less individual.
I’m about to turn 50 and people I know are telling me it’s time to cut my hair shorter, but I don’t want to
