The media landscape has lost one of its most polarising figures. Commentator Lou Dobbs has passed away at the age of 78. Known for his strong opinions and unwavering stance on a range of political issues, Lou Dobbs left an indelible mark on American journalism. 
His death was announced by former President Donald Trump, who took to Truth Social to pay tribute to his friend, calling him an ‘incredible talent’ and a ‘truly extraordinary reporter, journalist and artist’.
Lou Dobbs was synonymous with bold commentary and fearless reporting. He began his illustrious career as a reporter for KBLU, an Arizona radio station, where he covered police and firefighter cases. In the mid-1970s, Dobbs moved into television, joining NBC King-TV in Seattle.
He made a name for himself in 1980 when he became one of the first reporters for CNN, a fledgling news channel founded by Ted Turner.
He was a man of strong convictions, whose career was characterised as much by his profound ideas as by his controversial views.
