Kaylee’s daughter, Amanda, had been missing for a fortnight with no clues found despite extensive searches by Kaylee and the police. One day, after handing out more flyers, Kaylee went to a neighbour’s garage sale and was surprised to find Amanda’s jacket, the same one she was wearing the night she disappeared.
Kaylee handed out flyers around town, desperate for information. Amanda had run away, her phone was switched off and her friends didn’t know where she was. At first, Kaylee thought it was a typical teenage dare, but as the days passed, her concern turned to panic.
Kaylee asked her neighbour Angela about the origin of the jacket. Surprised, Angela revealed that she had bought it at a thrift shop near the bus station. The saleswoman vaguely remembers a girl who looked like Amanda haggling over the price, saying she needed money for a bus ticket.
On the way, she saw a young woman sitting on the porch of an abandoned house: it was Amanda. They kissed, apologised and walked home together, relieved and refreshed.
