William Garner, Jennifer Garner’s 85-year-old father, passed away “peacefully” last Saturday. Jennifer is in mourning. The 51-year-old actress, best known for her role in “13 Going on 30,” shared on Instagram: “We were with him singing ‘Amazing Grace’ as he passed (did we accompany him or scare him off – a valid question).” Garner expressed her “gratitude” for her father’s “sweetness and quiet strength” in her reflections on his life despite his passing. “For how he teased with a mischievous smile, and for how he played the role of patient and involved dad,” she continued. “We are grateful for his work ethic, his leadership, and his faith.”
She also expressed gratitude to the medical staff who cared for her father during his final months of life. Garner shared intimate moments, family photos at picnics where they shared watermelon slices. She also included an announcement of a 2016 credit card ad featuring herself alongside William. Talk show host Kelly Ripa was one of the celebrities and fans who expressed sadness in the comments section, writing: “What a beautiful tribute. My condolences to you and your family.”
Garner grew up in West Virginia with William, her mother Patricia Ann, her sisters Susannah and Melissa, and other family members. Jen talks about a “very public, very difficult time.”
Recently, the actress shared a lovely photo with her parents in front of a floral wall to commemorate their wedding anniversary, which was in January. “Happy 59th anniversary to my incredibly sweet and loving parents,” she wrote in the caption of this heartfelt tribute, “Mom and Dad, for giving my sisters and me such a good, stable, and happy start in life.”
