A Pennsylvania couple tragically lost their lives while vacationing in Florida with their six children, after being caught in a rip current.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office released a statement describing the incident.
According to the release, the teens made valiant efforts to rescue their parents, but ultimately were unable to overcome the powerful current. Emergency services were quickly dispatched to the scene and rescue operations began. Sadly, although they were transported to a nearby hospital, Brian and Erica were pronounced dead by medical staff.
Phillyburbs.com reports that water conditions were notoriously dangerous that Tuesday afternoon, with red flags flying on the beach to warn swimmers of dangerous current conditions, according to Martin County Fire Rescue representative Cory Pippen. The flags are intended to alert swimmers to potential dangers in the water, such as strong rip currents.
Larry Warter, Brian’s father, told CBS 12 News that his son and Erica had been a couple for over a year and were engaged. Erica was the mother of four children, while Brian was the father of two.
