Twelve years ago, in the central Russian town of Cheboksary, Ilya Zhirnov and Kira Cherkasova, aged twenty-five and twenty-two, disappeared without a trace. Their fate remained a mystery until an amateur diver found their car submerged in the river.
According to the police, the vehicle had been submerged for over ten years.
Using identification documents that had remained intact despite the immersion, the police identified the two missing persons. The diver discovered two bodies and personal effects inside the car.
The police’s initial hypothesis suggests that the two individuals lost control of their vehicle on the icy road, causing it to plunge into the river without anyone noticing or reporting it.

Could this discovery lead to the discovery of further clues or evidence that could shed light on what happened twelve years ago?
At this stage, it’s unclear what additional elements the new investigations might reveal.
Ultimately, this discovery should remind us of those who are still missing, and remind us that the answers we seek may lie right before our eyes.
