Luke Thill, a determined and hard-working young man from Dubuque, Iowa, embarked on an ambitious project at the age of eleven: to build his own miniature house in his parents’ backyard.
With a budget of $1,500, which he gathered by tinkering around the neighborhood, Luke spent a year and a half building an impressive 89-square-meter house. His determination and ingenuity enabled him to stay within his budget, using local hardware stores and online bargains for supplies. Luke’s commitment to his project even led him to watch carpentry and construction videos to improve his skills.
Luke’s journey into the world of tiny houses began when he discovered the tiny house movement on YouTube during a boring summer.
Along his tiny house building journey, Luke learned some valuable life lessons. He has discovered the importance of hard work, financial management and belonging to a caring community.
Luke is deeply grateful for the support he received from his neighbors, who exchanged tools and electrical help for household chores during the construction of the caravan. This project has brought Luke closer to his local community, underlining the power of solidarity.
