Like her mother, 45-year-old Libby Huffer suffers from neurofibromatosis type 1, a genetic disease characterized by non-cancerous growths that develop wherever there are nerves.
Unfortunately, this disease has led to the appearance of over 6,000 tumors on Libby’s body, exposing her to bullying. Over the years, Libby endured derogatory names including “toad” and “lizard breath”.
Her condition deteriorated further when she became pregnant and gave birth to her daughter 23 years ago, resulting in tumors multiplying by the thousands.
This pioneering procedure aims to eliminate tumors and prevent their regeneration.
Fortunately, she managed to raise the necessary funds and, the following year, underwent the long-awaited operation in June. Although the operation was a success, it left many scars that required CO2 laser treatment.
Libby is convinced that further surgery will boost her self-confidence and help her get rid of some painful childhood memories.
She said, “The tumors in my back cause me chronic pain, and I constantly feel tingling in my feet due to nerve problems, which makes it difficult to sleep.”
