A group of good Samaritans rescued a stranded horse trapped in a dangerous swamp in an extraordinary incident outside Calgary. The horse had strayed during a period of heavy rains and became trapped in the slough as part of a new herd in the area.
Darla Connelly, who was overseeing the situation, was very concerned about the new herd, which was unaccustomed to the difficult terrain in this exceptionally wet season. Her fears were realized when a two-year-old horse wandered away and became trapped in the marsh.
When the trapped horse sent out distress signals, the rescue operation was launched.
As the rescue machine pulled the rope and the off-roader’s engine roared, the horse was helped to cling on and climb back up. Demonstrating incredible strength, it found more solid ground with its hind legs and, with each pull, moved closer to safety.The intense and effective rescue mission came to an end when the horse, seemingly unharmed, began trotting toward the edge of the trees. Drenched in mud and brimming with pride, the volunteers saluted in unison the unexpected bond forged during the ordeal.
