In 2012, 24-year-old Aimee Copeland was a graduate student at the University of Georgia.
That year, she decided to spend some time off with her friends, enjoying the last few weeks before graduating.
One day, they decided to take a trip to a small lake, where they could zip-line across the water. The adventurous group wanted to try it right away.
What Aimee couldn’t know was that this moment would change her life forever. A zip line consists of a long, taut cable that rises into the air and offers a breathtaking view from below. As a rule, this activity is harmless.
But when it was Aimee’s turn, something went completely wrong. The cable suddenly snapped and Aimee fell towards a cliff… and lost her leg later that day.
Aimee was rushed to the hospital, but the tragedy didn’t end there.
Doctors discovered that the situation was much worse. A flesh-eating bacteria had infected the wound and the 24-year-old was in danger of death.
After 11 operations and difficult rehabilitation, Aimee luckily made it through, but both her hands and legs had to be amputated.
What a strong and brave woman you are, Aimee.
