“From flight deck to home: a woman turns a Boeing 727 into a luxurious house”
In recent years, unconventional building materials such as buses, tiny houses and shipping containers have gained popularity as unique housing options. These solutions offer convenience, affordability and customization. However, long before the emergence of these trends, Jo Ann Ussery embarked on an extraordinary housing project.
Intrigued by the idea, Ussery scouted a decommissioned Boeing 727, available for just $2,000, shipping included. She affectionately named her new home “Little Trump,” drawing inspiration from Donald Trump’s private Boeing 727. With less than $30,000 invested in renovations, he embarked on a major transformation.
Placing the plane over a lake on his property, Ussery began remodeling the 1,500-square-foot interior. He improved insulation, laid new flooring and retained the original lavatories and overhead compartments to make better use of space. The plane’s 76 windows, 138 feet long, provide plenty of space and natural light.
