The coach goes viral online for this act of kindness during a children’s basketball game

Despite being one of the most important members of society, teachers receive the lowest salary. Someone who dedicates their life to educating, advising, and guiding the next generation is a rare species. There are many instances of teachers going above and beyond to support their students. For example, Jonathan Oliver, a physical education teacher at WG Nunn Elementary School in Valdosta, Georgia, was recently recognized for a selfless act he performed while coaching a kindergarten basketball game. He would be happy to help a student who asked for help. Oliver, Kristen Paulk’s kindergarten basketball coach, stepped in to help Paulk when she needed assistance tying her hair into a ponytail. Oliver appeared focused as he brushed Kristen’s strands away from her eyes, crouching down to her level on a basketball court. But unbeknownst to him, he was being filmed. The coach’s thoughtful gesture was captured by Kandice Anderson, one of the elementary school teachers. She then posted the footage on YouTube, where it garnered many positive comments. The video’s title was “When your job goes beyond teaching!” and quickly went viral. After the video went viral, Good Morning America reached out to the 34-year-old father of three. “I was surprised it got so much attention because everyone does it,” Oliver told Good Morning America, adding that he didn’t realize he was being filmed. “We want them to feel at home and like being here,” he added. “We try to love them as much as possible. For me, it was just a ponytail.” The thoughtful coach revealed that Kristen had asked for help putting her hair in a ponytail for a basketball game, and although he usually helps his daughter with her hair, he was lost for anything beyond that. “It was nice that she asked for a ponytail. For everything else, I’d say, ‘You better ask Mom,'” he joked. Miyah Cleckley, Kristen’s mother, said the video deeply moved her and that she knows her daughter is in good hands when she’s with him. “I always know Kristen is in very good hands with him. I found it very endearing because her father often does her hair. We have five daughters and one son, so when I’m working, he has to take care of styling them.”
