The body of Riley Strain, the Missouri college student who had been missing for two weeks, was found in a river in Nashville. The Nashville Metropolitan Police Department confirms that Strain’s body was discovered in the Cumberland River west of Nashville at 7:30 a.m. on Friday. According to police, there was no evidence of “trauma related to criminal activity,” and an autopsy is still being planned.
Strain was last seen on March 8 when he was asked to leave the 32 Bridge Bar in downtown Nashville by Luke Bryan. The 22-year-old was seen a few more times before disappearing. Once on security footage across the street from the bar, and then a few minutes later on another camera. Police launched a massive search to find the college student, but until March 16, when they found his bank card near the Cumberland River, they could not locate him or find any signs.
According to a news report citing local police, Riley Strain’s tragic death appears to have been an accident. At this time, no criminal activity is suspected. According to WKRN News 2, the Nashville Metropolitan Police Department informed them on Saturday that Riley’s preliminary autopsy had been completed and that the death still appeared to be an accident. This seems to confirm what the police already believed. It is noteworthy that after the discovery of Riley’s body on Friday, the police held a press conference to reiterate that they did not believe there had been any criminal activity. Strain, a college student from Missouri, was found in the Cumberland River, approximately eight miles from downtown Nashville. This was where he disappeared while out with friends.
Riley did not turn up at Luke Bryan’s 32 Bridge Bar on Friday, March 8, after being ejected. Surveillance video showed him wandering aimlessly around the city, but he appeared to be fine when speaking with police. The 32 Bridge Bar stated that Riley had not been overserved but had to be removed because he was too intoxicated. Riley appeared to be heading toward the river after leaving the bar, as indicated by a bank card found there. Following this discovery, search teams combed the river and eventually found Strain’s body.
