People were shocked to see what emerged from the sea. The dolphin was pulled out of the water in an attempt to save it, but unfortunately, it didn’t stand a chance. According to experts, it’s a mammal of the species Delphinus Delphis. Multiple wounds were found on its body, likely caused by fishermen’s nets.
The Black Sea is home to three species of marine mammals: the common dolphin (Delphinus delphis ponticus), the bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus ponticus), and the common porpoise (Phocoena phocoena relicta). The dolphins of the Black Sea differ both in their morphoanatomical characteristics and in their main sources of food.
The bottlenose dolphin and the common porpoise mainly feed on fish and other benthic organisms, while the common dolphin feeds on fish and other organisms present in the water column. Based on these factors, each species prefers specific habitats: the first two species are mainly found in coastal areas, while the common dolphin is generally found in offshore areas. At birth, their size is approximately 0.80-0.95 m. In the Black Sea, they do not exceed 2 m (males – 177 cm, females – 159 cm). They are highly sensitive to chemical and acoustic pollution. They typically gather in groups of 10 to 15 individuals, as well as in pairs or isolated individuals. They swim very fast, reaching speeds of approximately 50 km/h.
It’s amazing: Tourists can’t believe what they’re seeing
