Imagine being seriously ill and at the mercy of parents who refuse to help you because of your gender. This was the fate of a 16-year-old girl following a series of incredibly sad but true circumstances.
A 16-year-old girl from Bihar, India, is sadly awaiting death after suffering acute kidney failure earlier this year. Local media report that her parents have refused to donate one of her kidneys or find a volunteer due to the cost and the fact that she is a girl.
Doctors recently told the teenager’s family that both her kidneys had failed.
She was therefore rushed to the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences in Patna for a second consultation, during which doctors declared that Kumar needed an urgent kidney transplant.
Kumari, who passed her A-levels this year, lives in the village of Aabgil Chande, in the Sheikhpura Sadar district, and is the eldest of five siblings.
Unable to pay the hospital bills, her parents decided to take her home. Although the family was unable to find a donor and could not afford the cost of the operation.
