Despite being accused by his stepbrothers of being the lovesick child who broke up his family, Joseph Baena is thrilled to have Arnold Schwarzenegger as a father, with whom he still shares a strong bond and whom he continues to support.
Continually snubbed by the children his father shares with Maria Shriver, Joseph Baena, 26, refuses to take a back seat to the man he says is “welcome to this world.”
For the first 14 years of his life, Joseph Baena was the dirty little secret kept by Arnold Schwarzenegger and the family’s housekeeper, Mildred ‘Patty’ Baena.
Describing his experience when he learned that Schwarzenegger, 76, was his father, Baena tells Men’s Health, “I remember very well the day I found out Schwarzenegger was his father: ‘I remember that day very well…… I was in eighth grade. Fifth or sixth period. I was asked to leave the class.’
But as he grew older, Baena began to look more and more like his father, and the secret became impossible to keep.
Although the resemblance to the former governor’s son was kept secret for the first 14 years of his life, he admits that what he did was wrong and says that Beana, now 26, ‘turned out to be an extraordinary young man’.
