When a 96-year-old woman expressed her fear of flying, the “angel of the air” sitting next to her reached out a helping hand.
Megan Ashley, a passenger across the aisle, witnessed the incident and documented it on Facebook.
She was flying from San Diego (SAN) to Nashville (BNA) on Southwest and saw a 96-year-old woman who had not flown in 15 years.
The elderly woman asked to hold her seatmate’s hand during takeoff and squeezed it tightly when the flight got a little bumpy. The unidentified man was kind and magnanimous throughout the flight – and even afterwards. Ashely describes what he did:
This gentleman, I should say, willingly took her hand, let her hold on to him, calmed her down by talking to her and explaining everything that was going on, and was simply this stranger who was there for her. He knew exactly what to do during the flight to help her. He helped her get up to go to the bathroom and watched her walk carefully down the aisle. I smiled the entire flight as he comforted her.
This man was her flying angel. He held her suitcase, helped her off the plane and into the wheelchair, and when she wondered where her daughter (whom she called her sister) had gone, he stayed with her until he reached her daughter, who had become separated from her.
Very touching: Man comforts frightened 96-year-old woman
