A shelter rescues an abandoned dog covered in a kilo of matted fur: he has completely changed after his transformation
Many stray or abandoned dogs are not brushed, which makes them unhappy, as their fur becomes matted and tangled. But a haircut can make all the difference.
That’s what happened recently, after a dog covered in heavily matted fur received a makeover that has given him a new lease on life.
The South Plains SPCA published an article about the «worst case of canine neglect we’ve ever known.» A 6-year-old dog was covered in thick, extremely dirty fur and was in poor condition.
Matt apparently howled in pain every time they tried to cut his hair, so he had to be sedated. They cut off a collar and leash that were embedded in his fur, and shaved off a huge pound of fur, the result of five years of neglect.
«There were thousands of goat head stickers, sticks, grass and even beetles entangled in his fur. He has severe bruising on his body because his fur was tight against his skin,» wrote the RSPCA. The dog was anemic and medicated, but had no heartworms or ticks (which would not have been able to get through his thick coat).
Matt still has a long road to recovery and will have to undergo dental work.
