Attention: If you see a sticker of a purple butterfly next to a newborn baby, you probably know what it means

Millie Smith and Lewis Cann went wild when they found out they were going to be parents. With several twins in the family, Millie had a hunch that she too was expecting two babies, and her mother’s instinct wasn’t wrong. The ultrasound showed that she was indeed expecting twins, but early in the pregnancy doctors were able to determine that one of the babies would probably not survive.
When Millie gave birth at 30 weeks, they were told that one of her daughters had anencephaly, a fatal condition in which the baby’s brain and spinal cord (the nervous system of the foetus) do not develop properly.
They were also told that their baby had only minutes or hours to live.Knowing this, the parents wanted to name their baby before saying goodbye. They chose the name Skye.
Today, their initiative has grown into a foundation, the Skye High Foundation, which supports the purple butterfly initiative. So far, it has helped spread the idea to hospitals in many countries.
Her other daughter, Callie, is now seven years old.
