When the financial crisis hit the world, it did not bypass the fabulous island of Crete.
Many people just released their pets in the hope that they could find their own food.
And as a result, packs of wandering dogs began to fill up all over the island.
When Theoclitos Projestakis happened to be on the outskirts of town and saw it all with his own eyes, he was affected by the sight of abandoned animals and decided to do something.
He and his friends began to feed the poor dogs, but because of the large number of them, it was dangerous for them to stay in the city.
Therefore, they arranged, constructed, and fenced off a sanctuary for them in an olive copse with an area of 33 kilometers and called it the ”Takis Shelter”.
Here the animals are calm and safe.
For the sake of his emotional outburst, which turned into his business, the person left a successful dental career.
But so far only his friends help him in this noble cause.
