A homeless mother dog decided to risk everything to make sure her babies were safe. When the outside temperature dropped below freezing and heavy snow fell, she became afraid for the lives of her babies, so Hera completely trusted strangers, hoping that they would be kind and help her and her puppies. Fortunately, Hera’s story has a happy ending!
Without a roof over her head, Hera gave birth to three puppies in a drainage pipe outside a village in Serbia. Things weren’t going well, but at least they had wind protection, and a loyal mother would usually find scratches nearby to feed. But a few weeks later, winter came and Hera and her children could no longer live there. Unfortunately, however, she had no other choice.
When everything seemed to be lost for the tiny puppies and their mother, the odds turned in their favor. After a concerned citizen called him to let him know about Hera’s situation, Milan from Dog Rescue Shelter Mladenovac, rushed to save them.
Surprisingly, Hera was happier than ever when she spotted Milan, and she even run out the pipe to greet him and let him know about her helpless babies. About 4-week-old, the puppies were looking in very good shape, but rescuing them proved far more difficult than anyone expected.
Even with their mom at the end of the pipe to assure them that everything’s all right, the puppies have never been next to a human before, and that made them impossible to reach. But Milan didn’t drive all the way there, only to give up on them. He spent hours in the cold trying to get them out, and he eventually succeeded thanks to a broom.
After rescuing them, Milan grabbed the three puppies into his arms and reunited them with their mom who was concerningly waiting inside the VAN. Now, Hera and her babies are all safe and warm at the shelter, thanks to the kindness of some strangers and her bravery!
